MD-272 Corridor Plan

The goal of the MD-272 Corridor Plan is to improve transportation along the MD-272 from Joseph Biggs Memorial Highway (MD-274) in the north to Shady Beach Road and Hance Point Road in the south. This area is a high priority for transportation upgrades in Cecil County because it’s already facing challenges and is expected to grow in the future. The Plan was developed under the guidance of a Steering Committee comprised of agency partners and local leaders with input from the community.
The MD-272 Corridor Plan recommended several projects to improve safety and mobility throughout the corridor. To help organize implementation, the Monitoring Committee ranked each recommended project based on the priorities and landscape of the area.
The Monitoring Committee evaluated converting Main Street and Mauldin Avenue from one-way to two-way traffic operations under projected 2040 conditions. Overall, the analysis found that a two-way conversion is feasible and would improve access to local destinations.
